Description

After an hour or so of watching the Aurora sit in one place to the north, I was turning to return my equipment to my van and head home to bed. I had taken many pictures of the same vista and was convinced that was all there was to happen. Aurora chasers need to practice patience, but it is difficult to do in frigid November temperatures late at night with only the sound of howling coyotes for company. I looked to the southwest and saw this curtain begin to show little spikes, a sure sign the Lady was about to take off…and she did! The bright “star” under the green band is actually Jupiter, getting ready to leave our sky for another night.
